V For Vendetta Quotes
V for Vendetta quotes are useful in all kinds of
situations. For example, if you're ever trapped in a dystopian
future, you can whip out some of these handy quotes and quotations
from the movie and sound really cool. Or if you live in a country
with a totalitarian government, you might be able to use these. The
quotes are fun, enjoy.
Remember, remember, the fifth of November. the gunpowder treason
and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever
be forgot. - V
People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments
should be afraid of their people. - V
I may have killed those fingerman that attacked you the other
night too, but I heard no objection to that. Violence can be used
for good. - V
Fear became the ultimate tool of this government. - V
One thing is true of all governments: the most reliable records
are tax records. - V
Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask
there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof. - V
There are no coincidences, Delia. Only the illusion of
coincidence - V
Evey, please. . .there is a face beneath this mask, but it's not
me. I'm no more that face than I am the muscles beneath it, or the
bones beneath them. - V
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as
both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no
mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant
and vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation
stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent
vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and
voracious violation of volition! The only verdict is vengeance; a
vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity
of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
[laughs] Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so
let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you
may call me "V". - V
Good evening, London. Allow me first to apologize for this
interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of
every day routine — the security of the familiar, the tranquility of
repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of
commemoration, whereby those important events of the past, usually
associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody
struggle, are celebrated with a nice holiday, I thought we could
mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer
remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down
and have a little chat. - V
There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect
even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with
guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may
be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their
power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will
listen, the enunciation of truth. - V
And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this
country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and
oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think
and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of
surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your
submission. - V
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are
those more responsible than others, and they will be held
accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the
guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I
know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There
were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and
rob you of your common sense. - V
Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now
high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you
peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient
consent. - V
Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed
the Old Bailey, to remind this country of what it has forgotten.
More than 400 years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of
November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world
that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are
perspectives. - V
So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government
remain unknown to you then I would suggest that you allow the fifth
of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel
as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand
beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament,
and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall
never, ever be forgot. - V
It means that I, like God, do not play with dice and do not
believe in coincidence. - V
What was done to me created me. It is the basic principle of the
universe, that each action will have an equal and opposing reaction.
- V
"Remember, remember / The fifth of November / The gunpowder
treason and plot. / I know of no reason / Why the gunpowder treason
/ Should ever be forgot". But what of the man? I know his name was
Guy Fawkes, and I know that, in 1605, he attempted to blow up the
houses of Parliament. But who was he really? What was he like? We
are told to remember the idea, not the man, because a man can fail.
He can be caught. He can be killed and forgotten. But four hundred
years later an idea can still change the world. I've witnessed
firsthand the power of ideas. I've seen people kill in the name of
them; and die defending them. But you cannot kiss an idea, cannot
touch it or hold it. Ideas do not bleed, it cannot feel pain, and it
does not love. And it is not an idea that I miss, it is a man. A man
who made me remember the fifth of November. A man I will never
forget. - Evey Hammond
Because he was right. This country needs more than a building
right now. It needs hope. - Evey Hammond
The building is a symbol, as is the act of destroying it. Symbols
are given power by their people. By itself, a symbol is meaningless,
but with enough people, blowing up a building can change the world.
I wish I could believe that. But every time I've seen this world
change, it's always been for the worse.
...Are you like a crazy person? - Evey Hammond (after V's
introduction)
Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of
observation, I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a
masked man who he is. - V
I worried about myself for a while. But one day I was at a market
and a friend, someone I'd worked with at the BTN, got in line behind
me. I was so nervous that when the cashier asked me for my money I
dropped it. My friend picked it up and handed it to me. She looked
me right in the eye and didn't recognize me. I guess whatever you
did to me worked better than I'd ever have imagined. - Evey Hammond
God is in the rain. - Evey Hammond
I remember them arguing at night. Mum wanted to leave the
country. Dad refused. He said if we ran away, they would win. Win,
like it was a game. - Evey Hammond
No one will ever forget that night, and what it meant to this
country. But I will never forget the man, and what he meant to me. -
Evey Hammond
We are told to remember the idea, not the man. Because a man can
fail. He can be killed and forgotten. But four hundred years later
an idea can still change the world. I've witnessed firsthand the
power of ideas. I've seen people kill in the name of them; and die
defending them. But you cannot touch an idea, cannot hold it or kiss
it. An idea does not bleed, it cannot feel pain, and it does not
love. And it is not an idea that I miss, it is a man. A man who made
me remember the fifth of November. A man I will never forget. - Evey
Hammond
Our integrity sells for so little, but it is all we really have.
It is the very last inch of us, but within that inch, we are free. -
Valerie Page
I shall die here. Every inch of me will perish. Every inch but
one. An inch...It is small, and fragile, and it is the only thing in
the world worth having. We must never lose it or give it away. We
must never let them take it from us. I hope that, whoever you are,
you escape this place. I hope that the world turns and things get
better. But I hope must of all that you understand that even though
I will never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you, I
love you. With all my heart, I love you. - Valerie Page
With so much chaos, someone will do something stupid. And when
they do, things will turn nasty. And then, Sutler will be forced do
the only thing he knows how to do. At which point, all V needs to do
is keep his word. And then... - Finch
Evey: V, yesterday I couldn't find my ID. You didn't take it, did
you?
V: Would you prefer a lie or the truth?
Evey: Did you have anything to do with this?
V: Yes, I killed him. Are you upset?
Evey: Am I upset? You just said you killed Lewis Prothero!
V: I may have killed those fingerman that attacked you the other
night too, but I heard no objection to that. Violence can be used
for good.
Evey: What are you talking about?
V: Justice. There's no courtroom in this country for men like
Prothero!
Evey: And are you going to kill more people?
V: Yes.
Evey: Is everything a joke to you Gordon?
Gordon Deitrich: Only the things that matter.
Evey Hammond: My father was a writer. You would've liked him. He
used to say that artists use lies to tell the truth, while
politicians use them to cover the truth up.
V: A man after my own heart.
Evey: [reading inscription on mirror] Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus
Vici...
V: "By the power of truth I, while living, have conquered the
universe".
Evey: Personal motto?
V: From Faust.
Evey: That's about trying to cheat the devil, isn't it?
V: It is.
Evey: I don't want you to die!
V: That's the most beautiful thing you could have ever given me.
Evey: You're sick! You're evil!
V: You could have ended it, Evey. You could have given in, but you
didn't. Why?
Evey: Leave me alone! I hate you!
V: That's it! See, at first, I thought it was hate too. Hate was all
I knew. It built my world, imprisoned me, taught me how to eat, how
to drink, how to breathe. I thought I'd die with all the hate in my
veins. But then something happened. It happened to me, just as it
happened to you.
V: Your own father said that artists use lies to tell the truth.
Yes, I created a lie, but because you believed it, you found
something true about yourself.
Evey: no...
V: What was true in that cell is just as true now. What you felt in
there has nothing to do with me.
V: Listen to me, Evey. This may be the most important moment of
your life. Commit to it. They took your parents from you. They took
your brother from you. They put you in a cell and took everything
they could take except your life. And you believed that was all
there was, didn't you? The only thing you had left was your life,
but it wasn't, was it?
Evey: Oh... please...
V: You found something else. In that cell, you found something that
mattered more to you than life. Because when they threatened to kill
you unless you gave them what they wanted...you told them you'd
rather die. You faced your death, Evey. You were calm. You were
still. Try to feel now what you felt then.
Creedy: Defiant until the end, huh? You won't cry like him, will
you? You're not afraid of death. You're like me.
V: The only thing you and I have in common, Mr. Creedy, is that we
are both about to die.
Delia: Are you going to kill me now?
V: I killed you 10 minutes ago, [holds up a small hypodermic needle]
while you slept.
Delia: Is there any pain?
V: No.
Delia: Thank you. [pauses briefly] Is it meaningless to apologize?
V: Never.
Delia: I'm so sorry.
Dominic: I went by Parliament. Never seen anything like it —
tanks, antiaircraft, infantry — it makes you wish that no one would
show up tonight. But if they do, what do you think will happen?
Finch: What usually happens when people without guns stand up to
people with guns.
Finch: Who was he?
Evey: He was Edmond Dantes, and he was my father...and my
mother...my brother...my friend...he was you, and me...he was all of
us. |
